Quick guide to improving your backstroke technique

Here are some tips and tricks that might trim some time off your personal best in backstroke!

Breathing Technique – Developing a good breathing technique is essential when it comes to backstroke. A consistent breathing pattern will help you swim more comfortably and efficiently thus aiding your stroke and oxygen delivery to the muscles.

Off the wall - Starting off the wall, launch yourself in an upward streamline motion. This ensures the greatest speed upon entry of the stroke.

Develop a strong kick – A kick is what helps you propel through the water, the faster the kick the faster you swim. Keep your feet close together and kick from the hips rather than the legs

Hand Position – Getting your hand position correct is key to improving your stroke technique. Lead with your thumb as your arm comes out of the water.
