Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai advance to the Australian Open women’s doubles final!
The much-loved Queenslander Sam Stosur was paired with China’s Zhang Shuai for an epic 7-5 4-6 7-5 semi final triumph over Cezch duo Barbora Strycova and Marketa Vondrousova, landing them a place in the finals.
The four women delivered excellent entertainment in their two-and-a-half hour classic, one of the longest doubles matches of the tournament.
Stosur and Zhang fought back from a 1-5 first set deficit, saving multiple set points and claiming the next six games to win it 7-5.
"My heart rate is so high ... it was amazing. Such a good match," Stosur said.
"Shuai picked it up at the end, she won it for us.
"We're on a bit of a roll and hopefully we can keep it going in the final."
Stosur and Zhang will play Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, the second seeds, in the final on Friday afternoon.
